The last decades have shown impressive results emerging due to faster and cheaper computation and bandwidth.
Many initiatives are running at an European and national level with special emphasis on computing and communication capabilities embedded in all types of objects and structures in the physical environment.
New on-going EU initiatives such as DEMANES and ACCUS which involve dozens of enterprises and academics institutions are focused on demonstrating emerging applications with enormous societal impact and economic benefits in sectors such as transportation, security, urban systems, etc. Such systems that link the abstract world of computing and communications with the physical world are called cyber-physical systems (CPS). CPS are engineered artefacts of the real world whose operation synergetically integrates computing and communication systems, i.e. the border between real and abstract becomes blurred in certain aspects. Nowadays, the conjunction of the cyber and physical worlds has enormous scientific and technical challenges beyond systems of systems. This workshop will bring together companies from different sectors and researchers from academia and industry in order not only to identify future research and developing areas, but also to actually feedback from the societal needs and market requirements on the basis of SMEs and LEs contributions.
